Commissioning a Painting FAQ

Do you take commissions?

Yes I do! Currently, I'm prioritizing commission requests for floral arrangments but other requests will be considered and quoted. Recently married? A painting of your wedding bouquet is a beautiful way to preserve the memory of your wedding! As a piece of fine art, it can be displayed in your home, and passed on for generations. Need a gift for someone? A painted bouquet of flowers makes a unique and thoughtful gift for an anniversary, birthday, or other special occasion! Just want a unique piece of art for your home or office? A commissioning a work ensures you get exactly what you are looking for!

What is the process of commissioning a painting?

The first step is to reach out via the contact form or DM me directly. We will then  discuss your piece, and I can quote a price.

How much does it cost?

Estimates for acrylics and oils start at $1 per square inch, while watercolor and gouache start at $2 per square inch. Not all sizes are available in every medium. Additional fees for shipping and materials may be applied.

Should I commission a gouache, watercolor, oil or acrylic?

Depends on your personal needs! See the list below for a comparison.

Watercolor

The good:

- Dries immediately, which results in a faster delivery time overall.

- Can achieve that signature watercolor "blooming" effect

The bad:

- Not available in larger sizes

- More prone to fading over time.

- Requires framing.

Gouache

The good:

- Similar  to watercolor, only more opaque.

- Dries immediately

- Can be used on a toned surface to achieve depth more depth and a "luminous" effect

The bad:

- Not available in larger sizes

- More prone to fading over time.

- Requires framing.

Oil

The good:

- The medium typically preferred for fine art.

- Can achieve better layering and blending effects.

- Great for larger pieces.

The bad:

- Can take over two months to fully dry.

- May require cleaning and restoration work as it ages.

- Colors may fade as it ages.

Acrylic

The good:

-  Becoming more accepted as a fine art medium.

- Requires minimal maintenance

- Dries quickly

- Colors will not fade over time.

- Great for larger pieces.

The bad:

- Tends to look "flatter" than oil.

- Sometimes perceived as "less professional looking" than oil

What if I'm still not happy with my painting?

I'm so sorry to hear that! Before the painting is varnished, you will be asked for one final approval. This is the last opportunity to ask for corrections to any work that has been done since your previous approval. If you approve the painting at this stage, the painting will be varnished and you will be obligated to pay the full price. If you are still not satisfied with the work, you may reject the painting; upon which the commissioned piece will remain with the artist and you will not be charged the second payment of 75%.  The first payment is no longer refundable, however you may keep the composition sketch that was approved prior to this payment.
